CRISPY ONION CHAYOTE BITES

Ingredients:

3 cups (6 oz.) FRENCH'S® Cheddar or Original French Fried Onions

1 to 2 chayotes, peeled and cut into 1/4-inch thick slices

2 tbsp. all-purpose flour

1 to 2 large eggs, beaten

Directions:

HEAT oven to 400°F. Place French Fried Onions into plastic bag. Crush with hands or rolling pin.Transfer to pie plate or waxed paper.

PLACE flour into separate plastic bag. Toss chayote pieces in flour; shake off excess.

DIP chayote pieces into beaten egg; then coat in onion crumbs, pressing firmly to adhere.

PLACE chayote pieces in a single layer on lightly greased rack set over rimmed baking sheet. Bake 10 to 15 min. or until tender.

Tips from French's

Note: Chayotes are a gourd-like fruit similar in size, color and shape to a large green pear. They are also known as 'mirlitons?. Prepare chayotes in a similar manner for summer squash.
