Quickie Kibbeh

Anyone who loves Lebanese food has already fallen in love with Kibbeh! Kibbeh is fragrant in the oven, brings family to the table FAST. This Americanized version is a snap to make, since using French's French Fried Onions takes a lot of work out of the preparation.

PREP TIME 30 min

Ingredients:

2.8 oz FRENCH'S® French Fried Onions

1 lb Ground Beef

1 cup Bulgar Wheat

1/4 cup Toasted Pine Seeds (or substitute toasted almond slivers)

1/8 tsp Cinnamon (optional)

1/8 tsp Allspice (optional)

1/8 cup Melted Butter

2 cup water

1 tbsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

Directions:

Stir bulgar wheat, salt, and pepper into the water. Stir in the allspice and cinnamon, if desired. Allow to soak for 15 minutes, then mix the ground beef and half of the French's French Fried Onions into the wheat mixture. Press half of the meat mixture into a greased 9x9" baking pan. Distribute the remaining half of the French's French Fried Onions over the meat, plus most of the toasted pine seeds (save at least 9 pine nuts to decorate the top!). Then spoon in the remaining half of the meat mixture and press it down flat. Using a sharp wet knife, cut the top meat layer so it resembles a tic-tac-toe. This will divide the top layer into 3-inch squares. Place one or more pine nuts in the center of each square, then drizzle the melted butter over everything. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Allow to cool 5 minutes or more before serving. Best served with plain yogurt or sour cream!
