Congratulations to Heather Smith for Winning the 2009 Cookoff

Mama Mary's Sloppy Joe's

My mom used to make this a lot when I was growing up. It was a great way to stretch hamburger our large family of 10 (8 children + mom & dad). I made this a lot when my own children were growing up--it was something quick & easy to make after their long day at school/hubby & my long day at work. I always think fondly of my mom whenever I make this, and am smiling now as I type this note, as she is no longer with us. Enjoy & God bless! :) <><

1 cup Bell Pepper, chopped

28 oz Ketchup

0.25 cup Brown Sugar

0.25 tsp Garlic Powder

1 tsp Hot Sauce

Directions:

Forget Manwich! This homemade recipe is so much better and is just as easy to make. Reheat leftovers, add 1-2 tbsp Chili Powder (or to taste) and VOILA! Chili dog sauce! The recipe notes 1 cup bell pepper (red, yellow or green) and 1 cup onion. I use 1 chopped bell pepper and 1 small-to-medium onion (Vidalia or yellow).
