My husband used to travel through Iowa and when I first met him, he would tell me tales of the magical Maid-Rite sandwich. Ironically, I was from Iowa and had never heard of it and thought it sounded not so good. He finally dragged me into a Maid-Rite shop on a trip to visit my parents and I fell in love with the sandwiches. We love these Maid-Rites with the help of French's. They are easy to make, everyone loves them and we think they are best with mustard and pickles - no ketchup! The Roseanne show brought the sandwich to prominence with her dinette, which referred to them as 'loose meat'.
