This is a great tasting creamy mac -n- cheese. My kids and I love it. It is fairly easy and quick to make.
Ingredients:
2 tsp FRENCH'S® Mustard Products
1 lb Elbow macaroni
4 tbsp butter
4 tbsp flour
5 cup milk
8 oz extra sharp white cheddar cheese
1 lb white american cheese
1 cup bread crumbs
1 gal water
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Directions:
Cook elbow macaroni per instructions on package. Drain thoroughly. While macaroni is cooking in a large (4 qt) saucepan melt butter over medium heat. Add flour, salt, pepper and mustard. Mix thoroughly. Gradually add milk one cup at a time. Stiring thoroughly after each time. Cook until sauce thickens. Add cheese. Stir sauce until cheese is melted. Put macaroni in a baking dish. Add cheese mixture to macaroni. Mix. Top with bread crumbs. May use parmesan cheese also. Bake for 30 minutes or until brown and bubbly.
I find that a wisk works best for making the sauce. Also a 10 x 13 x 3" deep baking dish works well. A larger as opposed to a deeper dish allows it to bake faster.
This works great for a quick meal for a working mom. If you prepare the macaroni and sauce in advance, combine them but do not bake and freeze it can then be defrosted (while at work) and baked. To bake quicker put into several small baking dishes as opposed to one large one.
This can also be combined with chopped up ham to add variety.
