I always make this for a family gathering. I have taken it to family's homes when there is a death in the family. I can't tell you how many times I have been asked for this recipe. My family considers this dish to be one of their favorites and I am asked to make it quite regularly. The mixture of the ingredients is a blend of flavors that is comforting to the palate. Most people that eat it for the first time can't quite figure out what the unique taste is. It is the onion rings.
Ingredients:
1 cup FRENCH'S® French Fried Onions
Directions:
Cook 1 8oz package of wide noodles till tender, drain and place in a large buttered pyrex pan. Brown 2 lbs. lean hamburger meat, season with pepper, 1 tsp.chili powder and 1 tsp garlic salt. Pour meat over noodles and cover with mushroom soup that has been thinned with 1/2 cup of milk. Cover with 2 cups of grated american cheese and cover with foil. cook for 45 minutes at 350. Take out and cover top with French's fried onion rings. Cook about 5 minutes longer and casserole is done.
This is an easy to fix recipe and is very convenient to freeze ahead of time. Usually all the ingredients are on hand to throw together in just a few minutes. It lets the preparer have time to cook other dishes or put their feet up for a little while.
