Gougere Bread

This recipe is easy, quick and shows beautifully. Everyone loves it, and you will almost always have these basic ingredients on hand to make it spur of the moment. It puffs up golden brown and is crunchy-chewy and just plain delicious.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup FRENCH'S® Spicy Brown Mustard

1 cup Flour

1 cup Water

6 tbsp Butter

1 tsp salt

1/8 tsp white pepper

4 cup eggs

1 cup Gruyere Cheese grated

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 425. Grease cookie sheet or lg flat baking pan. Put water, butter, salt and pepper in sauce pan. Heat until the butter is melted and the mixture is boiling rapidly. Add flour to butter mixture all at once and lower temperature, stir with spoon vigorously. Continue to cook until it forms a ball and remove from heat. Let steam out(continue to stir until the mixture has cooled down.) Beat in eggs one at a time. Add all but 2 T cheese. Texture should be glossy. Spoon large dabs of the batter on the cookie sheet forming a wreath shape. Scatter the remaining cheese over the top and Bake for 25-30 mins. until golden brown. Cut into pie shaped slices and place on serving dish with brown mustard to accompany. Enjoy!
This is a great appetizer for any occasion. If you don't have Gruyere, use Swiss. It can be modified by adding ham or dill or any number of ingredients. Just remember: let the steam out before you add the eggs or you will have cooked eggs and they will not incorporate into the batter.
