A catering chef taught me this simple recipe years ago. My kids were the ones who began adding French's Cheddar French Fried Onions to their bowls and refuse to eat it any other way! A true comfort food that even young children can learn to make.
Ingredients:
1 cup FRENCH'S® Cheddar French Fried Onions
2 cup chopped broccoli
1/4 lb butter
3/4 cup white flour
1.5 cup half-and-half
2 tbsp diced red onion
1 tsp fresh, chopped parsley
Directions:
Boil water, onions and broccoli in a stock pot until broccoli is tender. In a large sauce pan, melt butter on high heat and stir in flour until you make a paste. Continue stirring until flour browns. Lower heat to medium. In stockpot, stir in half-and-half. Add one cup of liquid to flour mixture (roux) and stir until you have a paste again. Repeat until approximately 2 cup liquid remains in stockpot, then pour flour mixture into stockpot. Stir well, adding parsley, salt, and pepper. Serve with French's Cheddar French Fried Onions.
