The beauty of this salad is the similarity of ingredients used in both the glaze and the salad dressing. The combination of zesty and sweet is carried throughout the dish. The French's French Fried Onions add a delightful crunchy texture to the salad as well.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup FRENCH'S® Bold n' Spicy Brown Mustard
1/2 cup FRENCH'S® Classic Worcestershire Sauce
1 cup FRENCH'S® French Fried Onions
3/4 cup honey
3/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 Strip Steaks
8 cup Salad blend of your choice
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
Directions:
FOR THE MARINADE/GLAZE:
Combine 1/2 cup each of French's Spicy Brown Mustard, French's Classic Worcestershire Sauce and honey in a bowl. Add 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of pepper (or to taste). Whisk together until smooth. Reserve two ounces of glaze for grilling. Place remaining glaze in a plastic bag along with steaks and put in refrigerator for 20-30 minutes.
FOR THE SALAD DRESSING:
Combine 3/4 cup of olive oil, 1/4 cup of balsamic vinegar, 1/4 cup of honey, 1/4 cup of French's Spicy Brown Mustard and 1/2 tsp of pepper in a salad shaker and shake until thoroughly blended. If you don't have a salad shaker you can whisk ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
FOR THE STEAK:
After marinating grill steaks to desired level of doneness. I prefer medium-rare which is a core temperature of about 145-150 degrees F. I grill for about 8 minutes on a side for 1 1/2 inch steaks. Your grill may vary. For the last minute of grilling on each side brush reserved glaze onto steak. This will add a nice carmelized coating to your beef. When steaks have reached desired temperature remove from grill, cover with foil and allow to rest for about five minutes.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER:
While steaks are resting (which will make the steaks juicier), arrange about 2 cups of salad onto a plate. Add about 1/4 cup of French's French Fried Onions to each salad, mixing thoroughly. Save a few to sprinkle on top. Slice steaks into strips and arrange on the salads. Drizzle (or generously douse) your freshly shaken (or whisked) salad dressing on top. Enjoy!
This recipe is easy to customize with any additional ingredients or spices your famly might enjoy. My wife likes when I add a TBSP of red pepper flakes to the marinade/glaze which lends a nice spiciness to contrast the sweetness of the honey. To make a complete meal I whip up some of my Crunchy Onion Crostinis (which I will submit here as well).
