This recipe is a weeknight staple for us -- it's so easy to put together, and there's just enough time between popping it in the oven and taking it out for us to watch an episode of one of our favorite TV shows on DVD. We have been known to time the oven with Buffy or House! Yummy, spicy, low-fat, easy, and homey -- does it get any better than that?
Ingredients:
2 tbsp FRENCH'S® Spicy Brown Mustard
2 tsp FRENCH'S® Classic Worcestershire Sauce
Directions:
1 - 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey
1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
1/2 cup chopped red onion
2 large egg whites
1/3 cup barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons oregano
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon paprika
dash salt
dash black pepper
Cooking spray
PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 375°.
Combine the turkey, breadcrumbs, and onion, 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce, and remaining ingredients except cooking spray in a large bowl.
Press meat mixture into a loaf pan, or shape into a loaf on a well-greased cookie sheet. Spread remaining barbecue sauce over top of meat loaf. Bake at 375° for 45 minutes or until a thermometer registers 160°. Let stand 10 minutes.
Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and serve with garlicky mashed potatoes, if desired.
I'm not always exact on my measuring of the mustard and BBQ sauce. I often just squeeze a goodly dollop of each into the mixture and adjust the breadcrumbs accordingly. This is a VERY forgiving recipe -- have fun! Mix up the spices, mix up the proportions of mustard and BBQ, use honey mustard instead of spicy brown... the choice is yours!
