Baked Onion Cheddar Crisp Monte Cristo with Honey Dijon Dipping Sauce

Monte Cristo sandwiches have long been a favorite in my family. The smiles beam when you do them one step better with French’s Cheddar French Fried Onions coating them. Incredibly crispy, and bursting with flavor in every bite, you’ll hear “are they done yet”?

Ingredients:

6 oz FRENCH'S® Cheddar French Fried Onions

6 oz FRENCH'S® Honey Dijon Mustard

8 Slices Firm White Bread

4 Thick slices Deli Style Low Fat Swiss Cheese

4 Thick Slices Deli Style Lean Ham

3 Large Eggs

4 oz Milk

4 oz Plain Yogurt

1/8 tsp salt

1/8 tsp pepper

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Crush entire can of French’s Onions in a gallon sized resealable bag with a rolling pin into fine crumbs. Pour into a pie plate. Set aside. Spread each piece of bread with some Honey Dijon Mustard. Place a piece of Swiss cheese on 4 slices of bread, followed by a piece of ham. Close sandwich with the second piece of bread, pressing together lightly. Combine remaining mustard with the yogurt, for dipping sauce. Cut the crusts off all sides with a sharp knife. Whisk together the eggs and milk in a pie plate with a pinch of salt and pepper. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, turning over to coat both sides. Place each sandwich into the crumbled onions, coating both sides. Place on a jelly roll pan. Bake for 7 minutes, then flip sandwich over and bake for 6 more minutes. Cut each sandwich diagonally into triangles. Serve hot. Makes 4 servings
